Its no secret – I’ve been a big fan of recommending everyone use schema markup on their websites.  By labeling content with the vocabulary that was created by the search engines, you’re giving yourself a leg up when it comes to indexing and the knowledge Google and Bing Search have about your products and services.

JSON-LD language is the next evolution of semantic markup and there is a tool to help us add JSON-LD to our websites simply and quickly.  This tool has been around for awhile but I only ran across it and tested it recently.  Previously we wrapped schema.org markup around the content on a page – so your address went from something simple like:

Ignitor Digital Marketing, LLC

736 1/2 Palmer Avenue

Glenwood Springs, CO 81601

to:

schema markup

JSON-LD allows us to add markup to the header of a site, instead of wrapping it around the content.  One of the issues we run into when adding markup to on-page text is the “breakage” that occurs when that text is edited.  Many times in platforms such as WordPress any editing of the text on a page would strip out the schema markup wrapped around your content.  With JSON-LD, you can add that markup to the header of your site – a method that has been endorsed by Google – and alleviates the constant editing you previously needed to be aware of every time you changed even a single typo, word change, sentence adjustment or other edit to a page, widget, footer or other on-page element.

JSON-LD came with a learning curve that was a bit kludgy.  There were really no tools to help – and knowing where to install it and how to write it was a bit more difficult than using one of the various Schema markup creators out there.  Now that I finally found one that works well, I’m sharing it with you all!  https://www.jamesdflynn.com/json-ld-schema-generator/

Not only can we mark up local business information with his tool, we can also mark up products, events, organizations, people and websites.  It’s a really easy way to generate the code – and it is pretty simple to edit your header and drop the code in.  It took me about 5 minutes to do it with this website – and it was 100% validated!  We highly recommend you use this tool – and we will be recommending it to all of our current clients as well!
